bullet Welcome to the TCRN's September Nexus
This month's highlights include the TCRN representing at the annual Cancer Innovations Conference for the second year running. TCRN Director also presented an overview of the TCRN program at the Sydney Cancer Conference 2016 on 22 September.
Both conferences featured TCRN members across UNSW Australia, the Prince of Wales Hospital Randwick and Macquarie University; Australian Institute of Health Innovation.

Congratulations to TCRN member Professor Peter Gunning on the successful Cancer Institute NSW Research Equipment Grant funding, which will see UNSW become home to the world’s first pre-production prototype of the 'Single-objective selective plane illumination microscope' (soSPIM).

This month we profile one of the TCRN's Chief Investigators; Associate Professor John Pimanda, Head of the Adult Cancer Program at UNSW. A/Professor Pimanda will lead the haematology projects under the Clinical Improvements into Practice Flagship and will also play a role in the leadership of the 2025 Cancer Workforce flagship. Also featured is TCRN Program Manager Stephanie Macmillan.

TCRN at Cancer Innovations Conference 161016 TCRN Feature at Recent Cancer Conferences

The TCRN and its members recently attended and promoted the work of the Centre at the Cancer Institute NSW Innovations in Cancer Treatment and Care Conference 2016. This year the theme was Psychosocial care and featured keynote speaker Professor Jane Turner.

TCRN Director Professor David Goldstein also presented an Overview of the Translational Cancer Research Network (TCRN) at the Sydney Cancer Conference on 22 September 2016. Other TCRN members who presented at the Sydney Cancer Conference include Dr Maarit Laaksonen and Dr David Simar.

Announced this week, the Cancer Institute NSW is funding universities and research institutes across NSW through the Research Equipment Grants program to introduce technologies that will change cancer research.
Note: Research Equipment Grants are open to members of Translational Cancer Research Centres only.

NSW Health - Conference Sponsorship Program Planning on hosting a Conference in the next 12 months?

The Office for Health and Medical Research (OHMR) is offering support for research conferences to be held in New South Wales through the Conference Sponsorship Program.
This program is open to organisations hosting medical research conferences in metropolitan Sydney, as well as regional and rural New South Wales in 2016/2017.

It is anticipated successful applicants will be awarded grants of up to $20,000 each – depending on the overall quantity and quality of applications.

Tips of the Trade: Conducting Implementation Research, A Case Study webinar + Q&A with A/Prof Chris Paul; 8:00- 9:00am, 4 October 2016

This case study webinar will give you a practical overview of how A/Prof Chris Paul and colleagues are undertaking an implementation science research project ‘Pathways to Smoking Care Implementation Project' (P-SCIP), funded by the Cancer Institute NSW Implementation Science working group.
The objective of this research project is to assist in building health system capacity for achieving routine clinician delivery of smoking cessation care for cancer patients in NSW.
