bullet Welcome to the February edition of the TCRN Nexus
The TCRN welcome Professor Mark Harris to the role of Chair of the Leadership Council and the TCRN Director

This month's Nexus includes the TCRN 2015 Cancer Challenge of the Year Lynch syndrome project update. This CCY project has used a theoretical framework of behaviour change to improve the identification and speed of detection of patients with colorectal cancer with a high likelihood of Lynch Syndrome.

We highlight TCRN Conference & Professional Development Grant recipient Ellen Barlow of the Royal Hospital for Women, as well as the work of TCRN PhD Scholarship Top-up student Claire Henry recently published in the Oncotarget journal .

The Cancer Institute NSW have a new Grants Management System online with applications for research equipment grants, early career fellowships and career development fellowships now open.

Please note that all TCRN members should by now have completed the TCRN annual reporting survey for the 2015 period.

Prof Mark Harris Welcome to Scientia Professor Mark Harris

The TCRN team are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Mark Harris to the role of Chair of the Leadership Council and the TCRN Director. Mark already held the position of Deputy Director and a TCRN Leadership Council member. He replaces Professor Robyn Ward. Professor Harris is foundation Professor of General Practice and Executive Director of the Centre for Primary Health Care and Equity at UNSW. He has substantial experience in health services research and trials on chronic illness prevention and management in primary health care.

We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding job that Professor Robyn Ward has done as foundation Director of the TCRN since the Centre's launch in 2011. As Director of the TCRN, Robyn has worked with a network of universities and hospitals to pursue the translational cancer research objectives of the Cancer Institute of NSW.

Professor Mark Harris will be continuing this role at TCRN until the end of the current TCRC program in June 2016.

Cancer Institute NSW open grants Cancer Institute NSW Grants Open and New Grants Management System

The following Cancer Institute NSW grants are now open:
- Research Equipment Grants (only open to members of a TCRC); close 4 April 2016
- Early Career Fellowships; close 30 May 2016
- Career Development Fellowships; close 30 May 2016

Research Equipment Grant applications must be certified by the Director of a TCRC. Please advise the TCRN if you intend to submit an application to ensure that appropriate approvals and certifications are provided prior to the closing date.
The Cancer Institute NSW have also launched a Grants Management System. We encourage members to register for the new Grants Management System and initiate a profile.
Members should note changes to the submission process. All grants must be submitted by 12pm on the closing date

Calendar image NSW Patient Experience Symposium 2016 - Registration Now Open!

NSW Health staff and consumers are invited to attend the 2016 PATIENT EXPERIENCE SYMPOSIUM.
The event is targeted at New South Wales Local Health District and Speciality Network staff and consumers.

The 2016 Patient Experience Symposium will be an opportunity for clinicians, consumers and managers to hear from experts in the field and to share local innovations in improving patient experience and outcomes.

Jeannie Ferris Cancer Australia 2016 Recognition Award Cancer Australia - Nominate an Outstanding Contributor in Gynaecological Cancer!

Cancer Australia is now calling for nominations for the 2016 Jeannie Ferris Cancer Australia Recognition Award.

The Jeannie Ferris Cancer Australia Recognition Award will be awarded to a health professional/researcher and to a person affected by gynaecological cancer either as a woman with a diagnosis or as a community member, family member or carer, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to improving outcomes for women with gynaecological cancers.
