The TCRN is a translational cancer research centre program funded by the Cancer Institute NSW
Welcome to the Nexus for December 2017
From all of us at the TCRN, we would like to wish you a safe and happy holiday. We have plenty of achievements to celebrate as a result of all of your valuable contributions throughout the year and we look forward to continued success in 2018.
2017 has been a very successful year in terms of funding, awards, publications and other outputs for many of our members. We have been involved in a number of successful events either led or sponsored by the TCRN spread across the 2017 calendar. These included Sydney’s first 'Oncofertility Symposium', the 'Bridging the Gap' and 'Randwick Precinct Cancer Roundtable' sessions as well as the 'Life after a PhD' career pathway workshop with new and exciting events to feature throughout 2018.
We awarded the first TCRN Flagship Support Grant to Professor John Pimanda for his project flowcytometry based assay to predict Azacitidine (AZA) responsiveness in Myelodysplasia/Acute Myeloid Leukemia (MDS/AML). The TCRN has also awarded 3 PhD Top-Ups awards, 1 Clinical PhD Top-Up and 16 Travel and Professional Development Grants. We will offer similar support in 2018.
The TCRN will be closing in line with the end of year shutdown from 20 December 2017 to 1 January 2018 inclusive. TCRN staff will be back in the office from 2 January 2018.
Grant Success for TCRN Members
Congratulations to a number of TCRN members who have been successful in attracting funding this year!
The TCRN is delighted to announce that four new member groups are joining the network. The George Institute for Global Health, Fertility Research Centre, The Microbiome Research Centre and Macquarie University. Stay tuned for more details in 2018!
Research Grant Preparation Administrative Support
The TCRN is offering Research Grant Administrative Support exclusive to our members to assist with administrative efforts involved in putting together a grant application for the NHMRC or ARC in the area of translational cancer-related research or cancer care service delivery. Applications for support close on the 15th of January.
Including Health Economics in Translational Grants Workshop
The HEAT team of Professor Marion Haas and Richard De Abreu Lourenço, PhD, will be facilitating the workshop along with A/Professor Rachael Morton at UTS on 15 January 2018 from 1pm - 5pm. The deadline for concept submission is 13 December.
The TCRN has funded numerous researchers and PhD candidates throughout 2017 with funding ranging from Conference and Professional Development to Flagship Support grants.
This month we would like to bring your attention to several excellent articles from our members spanning a wide array of topics from proteogenomics to surgery advances to epidemiological analysis.
