Carmel holds a BSc (Hons) in Biology and a DPhil in microbiology, both completed at the University of York, UK. She then worked at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, Oxford University for 5 years before moving to live in Sydney. Carmel worked with Prof Wendy Jessup for several years as a post-doctoral molecular biologist in the area of cardiovascular research, first at the Heart Research Institute and then at the Centre for Vascular Research, UNSW. Carmel is currently working as a Project Officer at the TCRN whilst also completing a Masters degree in Public Health (MPH) at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine (SPHCM), UNSW.
Carmel has been working as a Project Officer with the TCRN since 2013. Her role involves managing patient consent for the HSA Biobank at Prince of Wales and St George hospitals as well as liaising with Border Medical Oncology in Albury-Wodonga. Carmel is also responsible for co-ordinating the application and reporting processes for the TCRN Cancer Challenge of the Year projects and will also be providing project support to both the Haematology and the Surgical Quality Improvements (Oncology) flagship projects within the TCRN.
