Cancer Council NSW Upcoming Consumer Research Training - Calling for EoI

21 June 2016
Cancer Council NSW

The Cancer Council NSW will be running two courses: the annual 'Consumer in Research' training and the biennial 'Cancer Council NSW Consumer Review Panel' training. The training days will be held at the Cancer Council NSW head office in Woolloomooloo on 5 and 6 September 2016.

Cancer Council NSW highly values the views of the community we serve and represent. That’s why we expect all researchers who apply for our funding to have consumers involved in their research. We also highly value the input of consumers into our research funding decisions and all applications we receive for funding are reviewed by a panel of trained consumers. Community involvement improves research quality, and helps ensure real-world needs are met.

  1. The annual Consumer in Research training course, presented by Cancer Council NSW, will be held in Sydney on 5 September 2016. This free, one-day training course equips consumers with the skills and knowledge needed to work directly with researchers.
  2. The biennial Cancer Council NSW Consumer Review Panel training will be held in Sydney on 6 September 2016. In this free, half-day course, graduates of Consumer in Research training learn how to review the consumer-specific section of grant applications we receive. Following review training, consumers are eligible to participate on Cancer Council NSW’s annual Consumer Review Panel. Please note that scientific knowledge is not required to be a member of the review panel.

The training courses are open to anyone who has a close, personal connection with cancer, understands the cancer journey, and is able to provide the consumer perspective.

An expression of interest form can be downloaded from the Cancer Council NSW website; submissions close 5 August 2016.
