Professor Phil Crowe

TCRN role: Professor Phil Crowe leads the Surgical Quality Improvements component of the Clinical Improvements into Care flagship.

Professional and research interests: Professor Crowe is the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Prince of Wales Hospital and the Clinical Associate Dean at the Prince of Wales Clinical School, UNSW. His major surgical and research interests are sarcoma, breast and endocrine surgery.

Career achievements: Professor Crowe is highly acclaimed as a researcher, clinician and educator. He is a former Rhodes scholar and holds a PhD in surgery from the University of Oxford, as well as a Diploma of Education from UNSW. Among his many professional appointments, he is the founder and a former director of the Sydney Sarcoma Unit, the founder and current co-director of the Sarcoma and Nano-Oncology Research Group at the UNSW Lowy Cancer Research Centre, a board member of the Australian Sarcoma Study Group, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. Professor Crowe won the UNSW Dean’s Scholarship for Excellence in Teaching in 1996 and was awarded best clinical teacher at Prince of Wales Hospital in 1994 and again in 2004.
