  • Shared Care for Colorectal Cancer: Workshop for General Practitioner 2019

    This activity focuses on shared care for patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) in primary care.

    Overview of the Workshop

    Despite the increased prevalence of colorectal cancer, early detection and improved effectiveness of treatment have resulted in higher rates of survival. GPs are called upon to have an increased role in, long term surveillance and care of CRC survivors.

    Workshop Learning Objectives

    1. To identify the prevalence of colorectal cancer (CRC) and current survival statistic
    2. To describe CRC screening programs and diagnosis of CRC
    3. To describe current management principles and modalities for CRC management
    4. To identify the role of general practice in the care of long-term survivors of CRC including surveillance of recurrence new cancer and long-term side effects of treatment
    5. To identify how to support cancer survivors to manage their lifestyle risk factors including smoking, alcohol, diet, physical activity and weight
    6. To review the recording and mentoring options for shared care of cancer survivors
